Congratulations!
Dr. Eliza Georgiou, is the 2024/5 recipient of DTI’s ECR Seed Funding Award. Eliza, a Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry for the Elderly, St James’s Hospital, Dublin graduated from University of Patras, Greece where she is currently pursuing her PhD. Eliza’s research will focus on assessing the feasibility of introducing disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) for Alzheimer’s disease in Ireland. The study will address equity of access, infrastructure requirements, and logistical challenges in public and private healthcare settings. Secondary objectives include evaluating barriers, logistical issues, and the acceptability of treatment pathways among patients, caregivers, and clinicians.
Key Research Activities and Future impact
Key outcomes, including process measures and graph-based models, will inform multi-centre trials and national guidelines for equitable DMT access. This study will help DTI expand its trial network, integrate DMTs into diverse healthcare settings, and position Ireland as a leader in dementia research and treatment. It will also serve to bridge the gap between clinical trials and real-world implementation, ensuring DTI-led trials are impactful, scalable, and aligned with Ireland’s healthcare needs.
About DTI’s Seed Funding
DTI’s Seed Funding award is made annually and is aimed at early career researchers. The award is intended to support a trial preparation project which will contribute to the pipeline of clinical trials within Dementia Trials Ireland. This award has the potential to be highly impactful and it is intended that it should make a significant contribution towards leveraging larger scale research funding in the future.
Once again, a huge congratulations to Eliza and we wish her well with her research in the year ahead.
